Rainbow Warrior winds up visit

The Rainbow Warrior anchored off Mejatto Island, Kwajalein Atoll in late March. It traveled to Mejatto to mark the 40th anniversary of the Rongelap relocation to Mejatto.

Greenpeace’s flagship Rainbow Warrior is winding up its extended visit to the Marshall Islands. It completed visits to Mejatto Island in Kwajalein, Enewetak, Bikini, and Rongelap over the past month.

The vessel visited Wotje last week, the last outer atoll on its tour of RMI.

“The scientists will be continuing their work, collecting the DNA of dogs and any presence of diseases, along with collecting samples as they have done at the other atolls,” said Greenpeace International Communications and Content Editor Shuk-Wah Chung.

The vessel was here for the dual purpose of marking the 40th anniversary of the relocation of the Rongelap people from their home atoll to Mejatto, and also to collect samples from different islands for future scientific assessment.

The Warrior arrived in Majuro over the weekend and has been at Delap Dock this week hosting tours by local students.
