Large numbers of people flocked to the streets over the weekend to witness the Chamber of Commerce’s 34th annual Christmas Parade. The parade started at Rita and came to a stop at Delap Park.

An elderly Rita resident told the Journal that he always anticipates this yearly event. He stated that in the 1980s, the parade only featured floats passing rather than candy being thrown. The residents, mainly children, were waiting in the early morning, holding bags of candy.

A few locals thought that the parade would begin at ten in the morning. A power outage that day prevented V7AB from announcing the parade’s movements to the public.

Several private sector and diplomatic institutions participated in the parade, which got underway as scheduled at 1pm. Majuro Local Police maintained order as children ran to collect candy from floats decorated with Christmas ornaments.

The Chamber announced on Facebook that this Saturday, the parade will continue from Delap Park to Laura.
