Taiwan’s climate donation

Republic of China (Taiwan) Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Hank Liu presented a check for $2 million to Foreign Minister Kalani Kaneko at Minister’s office on September 4.

The $2 million is for the Climate Change Transitional Fund to support efforts of the RMI to tackle climate change. The transitional fund is supported by from the Taiwan government for the Marshall Islands.

At the presentation, Liu reiterated Taiwan’s longtime commitment to its close partnership with the Marshall Islands. “Taiwan will continue to work closely together with the Marshall Islands in many fields of mutual concern,” he said.

Minister Kaneko, on behalf of the RMI government, expressed his appreciation to Taiwan government for this funding, and all assistance in response to the needs for RMI’s national development. Minister Kaneko emphasized the Marshall Islands would continue to voice its support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations. 

Tony Alik, Deputy Director of National Energy Office, joined the presentation, which was witnessed by staff from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Taiwan Embassy.
