P4 Bible translation to be celebrated
The new translation of the complete Bible will be dedicated Sunday July 24 at Uliga Church. The work of more than 15 years will be dedicated at a celebration service led by the leaders of he united Church of Christ, the Roman Catholic Church, the Assembly of God, and he Seventh Day Adventist Church. This will be the first complete translation of the Bible. Alice Buck, coordinator of the project, together with many of the translators and reviewers, will be present.

Ramsey Reimers, Anton deBrum, Marshalls Billfish Club President Tom Michels and Misao Capelle will compete in the Tokyo Billfish Tournament which is being held July 23-25.

P3 The tradition lives!
Excitement was in he air Friday as the Marshalls’ voyaging canoe was launched in a ceremony at the Weather Station. After speeches and christening of he 50-foot outrigger, led by Leroij Atma Zedkaia, hundreds of people crowded the shore to watch and cheer as the canoe was pushed into he lagoon or its first ties. He canoe was decorated with pieces of brightly colored materials hat waved in he breeze. President Amata Kabua was on hand for he event, filming the canoe, the builders and the program on his own video camera.
P16 Serving the skies for AMI
Ten Marshall Islanders completed a rigorous five-week flight attendant training course in New Zealand, Hawaii and Majuro and will soon be flying on Air Marshall Islands DC-8 jet. They were congratulated by President Amata Kabua and members of the Cabinet at a graduation ceremony at the Lanai last Thursday. Those in the training were: Josephine Batulanon, Jiliea Chutaro, Philomina Edwards, Charlotte James, Judith Jeik, Totha Kaious,Darrell Reed, Janet Ritok, Betty Tibon and Justina Yamamura.

P8 Ueno gets tough with principals
For years, many public schools have not provided enrollment and other school information to the Ministry of Education headquarters in Majuro. It is a problem that Secretary of Education Gary Ueno believes can be solved. Last year, 13 schools, including several private schools, did not file the required data with the Ministry. But Ueno has a handle for public schools that he is now using. “I tell the principal that if they want to get paid, get the information in to me,” he told the Journal Friday. The new policy of enforcement is working. As of last week, only two schools still had not presented this data to the Ministry of Education.
P13 Kollu, koluuj
Hall of Fame basketball player Larry Bird has obviously been to the Marshall Islands because he appreciates the Marshallese phrase, “kollu, koluuj” (you get mad, you lose). Last week, Kobe Bryant dissed the fellows who made up the 1992 USA Olympic Dream Team that won the gold medal — you know, someone named Michael Jordan, another guy named Magic Johnson. Oh yeah, and Bird, too. Anyway, Kobe said this year’s USA Olympic team would have beaten the 1992 team. Well, this pissed off Jordan, who was playing golf at the time, and responded that what Kobe said was pretty stupid. Not Bird, however. As to whether the current Olympic team could beat the Dream Team, Bird commented: “They probably could. I haven’t played in 20 years and we’re all old now.”
