Two separate car accidents over the weekend resulted in the death of a child and left a teenager confined in a bed at the surgical ward in Majuro hospital.

Hospital records said a vehicle struck 10-year old Billy Bunglick at the Jable road in Rairok. The boy was considered “DOA” (dead on arrival) upon arriving at the Emergency Room (ER) Saturday evening.

A few hours later (early Sunday morning), Pan Pacific Foods security guard Leeky Pero witnessed a car flying over the fence and toppling a coconut tree before crash landing upside down on the driveway and hitting the guard shack.  The car was heading towards town when it hit the embankment by MEC, taking out a small coconut producing tree, narrowly missing the transformer, and rolled, ending up on its roof inside of the PPF security house.

Friends of the two passengers in the accident said the driver ran away before authorities arrived at the scene, leaving the unconscious 19-year old co-pilot Jemelon Hosia behind.

Jemelon was rushed to the ER, where medics applied stitches to his face after conducting x-rays on various parts of his body.

Friends of the injured passenger said the two stole a car that was parked at Ace One Stop gas station in Delap without asking permission.

To date, Jemelon remained at the surgical ward while the driver remained at large.
