Welcome to Majuro. In the category of “let’s put our best foot forward,” it was a big NOT at Laura Beach this past weekend.
What are we thinking? Look at the panoramic view of garbage dumped by users of Laura beach and not picked up in a timely manner.
As it happened, we were escorting a visiting film team that was filming around Majuro to capture local scenes on video for a film they are making about climate and various other things.
We may be in the position of saying “help” to the world about rising sea levels, but the optic of Laura Beach tells the world (and local residents) that we don’t care much about our islands.
So what’s the big deal on asking the world to help save our islands from rising sea levels when we’re not very interested in our home anyway?
