RMI Ambassador to Taiwan Anjanette Kattil hosted a commemorative reception at the Shangri-La Far Eastern Hotel in Taipei earlier this month to honor the 46th Constitution Day.
Taiwan Vice President Hsiao Bi-Khim, and Secretary-General of the National Security Council Joseph Juashieh Wu delivered remarks on behalf of Taiwan, congratulating the RMI on the 46th independence anniversary and expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from the RMI towards Taiwan’s meaningful participation at the international community.
Over 200 guests attended the gala event.
These included, in addition to Hsiao and Wu, Deputy Secretary of the Legislative Yuan Chang Yu-jung, along with other high-level officials from the government of Taiwan such as Vice Minister Remus Li-Kuo Chen of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Ministers of Interior, Labor, Environment and Digital Affairs.
The event was also attended by diplomatic representatives, including the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Andrea Bowman, alongside distinguished members from the diplomatic, business, academic, and mass media sectors.
Ambassador Kattil extended warm greetings from President Hilda C. Heine and the RMI. She expressed gratitude to President Lai and the government and people of Taiwan for the strong and enduring friendship between the two countries that has blossomed over the nearly 27 years since the diplomatic ties were established on November 20, 1998.
Ambassador Kattil spoke about the meaning of this year’s theme, “Bwil im Korene: Paddle with Purpose, Leave the Past in Our Wake,” and how it emphasizes the importance of moving forward with deliberate intent, learning from our past, and continuing to paddle onward to ensure we remain at the forefront of progress and development.
She highlighted how this theme encourages Marshallese citizens to learn from history, move purposefully, and strive towards a brighter future for the Marshall Islands. Ambassador Kattil also took the opportunity to remind Marshallese citizens, especially the students studying in Taiwan, of how vital they are to the growth and prosperity of the Marshall Islands and further encouraged them to embrace their identity, culture, and heritage with pride and to aspire to do their part in the development of the Marshall Islands.
