SDA Ebeye students and staff joined with Japan Ambassador Hideyuki Matsuoka at the handover of the newly renovated school facilities.

Japan Ambassador to the Marshall Islands Hideyuki Mitsuoka attended the handover ceremony for the renovated Ebeye Seventh Day Adventist School in Kwajalein Atoll last Friday. The ceremony was also attended by Lerooj Anta Kabua James, KALGov City Manager Scott Paul, Kwajalein Public School System Assistant Commissioner Jelton Anjain, Ebeye SDA Chaplain Pastor Alex Riano, Acting Deputy Chief Secretary Sef Korok, Ebeye SDA Board Chairman Pastor Rene Suhot, Ebeye SDA Principal Raian Villacruel, officials from the Embassy of Japan, teachers, parents and students. The project was funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). A grant of $89,831 was provided. The first floor of 30-year-old three-story building was at risk of collapse in 2015, and it needed immediate renovation. With GGP grant, the school was able to renovate the first floor of the building and renew laboratories, a staff office, a library, and a storage room. The school matched the Japan grant with $90,000 and devoted many volunteer workers for the construction. To date, the Embassy has implemented 139 GGP in the RMI and the SDA school grant marks the 13th in Kwajalein Atoll.
