A full-scale emergency exercise took place Tuesday in Majuro challenging first responders to deal with a mock lagoon airplane crash scenario.
The exercise brought together RMI Ports Authority, Marshall Islands Police Department, Majuro Atoll Local Government, Sea Patrol, Marshall Islands Marine Resources Authority, Marshall Islands Red Cross Society, Ministry of Health and Human Services, Environmental Protection Authority, church groups, National Disaster Management Office, Office of National Security and National Guard units from Nebraska and Guam, that have recently been partnering with the RMI.
The scenario was that United Airlines crashed near Enemanit Island and victims were brought in to Majuro at Delap Park where they were then rushed to Majuro hospital emergency room depending on what their “injury” was.
The exercise showed the public the collaboration needed to successfully pull off a full-scale emergency exercise.
At times, it appeared somewhat confused when looking in from the outside and the weather presented realistic challenges. But once it got going, the emergency response teams gave it their best.
