Life Skills Academy Student Body Government really lived up to Beyonce’s famous song “Who runs the world? Girls!”

The court top officers are all girls, which may be unprecedented in public school SBG history. There are two boys in the SBG who hold sports and public relations positions.

Esther Lolin, a senior who was elected SBG President, told the Journal that she wants to help her school move forward in all aspects. But, she added, her goal as president is to encourage her fellow students not take strong substances. “To do all of this we will need to cooperate together,” said Esther.

Vice President Carly Sutch is a junior. “I want to bring up my school’s name,” she said, adding: “Currently we are known as the slow folks to other schools and teachers. I want to change that because we are all equal.”

Secretary Beta Takabae is a sophomore and shared the same goals as her vice president. “I just want my school to move forward,” she said.

Elected as the treasurer is Vilisi Botenakadavu who is also a junior. She told the Journal she wants to be able to collect funds and to be able to save money for her school’s upcoming events.

Sport officers for male is Jobwa Domnick and Lerose Belle for females. Lerose who is in tenth grade, told the Journal she wants to create the school’s first female basketball team and that she’s looking into getting them the sport supplies they will need. Jobwa shared the same goal, “I want to create a basketball and a soccer team,” he said. He also told the Journal he’s thinking of uniforms for the teams as well.

Christopher Dooley is the elected public relations officer.

“Very proud of these students taking part in the SBG elections and confirming their positions as officers for this school year,” said LSA Principal Kenneth Fernando.

“The students have great potential and sometimes just waiting for an opportunity to shine. We had an unprecedented 36 candidates run for SBG this year which showed our students building the confidence and motivation they need. The SBG along with their Advisor, Ms. Metali, have some good plans which have been discussed with the office and we wish them the best with providing the support they deserve.”
