Bank of Marshall Islands showed its support this week for Marshallese students studying overseas through the United World College program.
For the second year in a row, BOMI provided the Marshall Islands UWC National Committee with a donation that assists a student to study in Singapore with an approximately five percent match for her total tuition and room and board, most of which is provided through scholarship from UWC South East Asia.
BOMI President and CEO Velma Edwards presented a check for $4,000 to UWC National Committee member Eve Burns, herself a graduate of UWC Pearson College in Canada.
Since the UWC program began in the RMI in 2012, 20 Marshallese have graduated from nine of the 18 UWC schools around the world. It is a two-year, junior-senior high school program studying for an International Baccalaureate diploma.
Two Marshallese students are presently at UWC South East Asia.
The UWC National Committee has opened applications for the 2027-29 school years. Any Marshallese citizen studying in the RMI who is in either 10th or 11th grades is eligible to apply. Deadline to apply is November 27, 2026.
