Miss Majel pageant in gear

A total of 13 Marshallese young women will be competing in this year’s Miss Marshall Islands Pageant.

Scheduled for July 2-11 in Majuro, the program is filled with a variety of activities involving the contestants and the community.

The Office of Commerce, Investment and Tourism is organizing the event.

The rolling series of events during the 10-day period include a blessing and sashing ceremony, presentation by the contestants of their “platforms” of interest and action, a parade and talent show, and the grant finalé on July 11 when a new Miss Marshall Islands will be crowned.

The current Miss Marshall Islands is Claret Chong Gum. She is the second Marshallese to wear the crown, following the first Miss Marshall Islands Billma Peter.
