A three-month workshop involving boatbuilders from four outer islands is seeing various boats taking shape in the Waan Aelon in Majel workshop in Delap. The WAM team and the boatbuilders from Lae, Ujae, Kwajalein and Aur are working on three projects that need to be completed before Christmas.
They are building one WAMCat catamaran, one Harry Proa (larger canoe), and four 18-foot outrigger canoes that the four men will take back with them to their outer islands.
The work is in collaboration with the German government’s International Development Agency known as GIZ, which is supporting the Low Carbon Sea Transport inside-lagoon boat building workshop.
